Paddle for the Coast: Throw a Boat Down at Jericho Beach in Support of Indigenous Ocean Protection
VANCOUVER, BC – Friday, June 27, 2025 | 7:00 PM @ Jericho Beach
Throw a Boat Down is a paddle-powered, on-the-water celebration, bringing together music and community in a unique floating concert experience at Jericho Beach.
This unique on-the-water festival invites ocean lovers and justice-seekers to float up to a tall ship stage or settle in on the sand for an unforgettable night of live music and sunset views—all in support of Indigenous-led environmental protection.
Tickets are $15-$25 via Humanitix: https://events.humanitix.com/float
Highlights:
Live music from surprise guest performers—expect funk, groove, and soul from some of East Van’s favourite artists, with headliners announced June 26th.
Float-in concert format—rent a kayak and enjoy the music from the water!
Support Indigenous legal action for ocean protection through a night of joyful solidarity.
With audiences drifting on the waves in a sea of glowing boats, this event is a magical way of building community, raising awareness, and mobilizing resources for Indigenous legal challenges.
Heiltsuk Nation's legal action arises from the devastating 2016 Nathan E. Stewart oil spill, which desecrated their traditional marine territory and shellfish beds. The case aims to affirm Indigenous governance over ocean spaces and secure accountability from the federal government. A win would set a powerful precedent for Indigenous coastal protection nationwide.
Don’t miss this one-of-a-kind fusion of art and activism. Come for the tunes, stay for the cause, and paddle for the future.

Women's Rolling Clinic
July 5, 10am-1pm
Learn to roll in a supportive, women-led environment
Rolling your kayak can open up a whole new world of confidence and fun on the water. In this women-specific* clinic, you’ll learn the foundational skills needed to develop a reliable roll with step-by-step guidance from experienced female instructors who create a comfortable, encouraging space for learning.
This clinic is designed to support you at your own pace, whether you’re brand new to rolling or looking to refine your technique. We'll break the roll down into manageable parts and offer plenty of individualized feedback and gentle, hands-on support where needed.
Why a women’s clinic?
Many paddlers appreciate the ease and trust that comes from learning alongside other women and being coached by women. Because rolling often involves close physical assistance, this environment can feel especially respectful and empowering. Our instructors emphasize technique and body mechanics over strength, helping you discover a roll that feels smooth, efficient, and achievable.

Food and Flames - Cooking while on Kayaking Trips (a free online presentation)
May 12, 6-8pm | July 8, 6-8pm
Do you want to up your cooking games while on kayaking trips? Or are you just getting started and want to move beyond tuna from a can?
Join veteran touring kayaker and JBK instructor Philip Torrens for a free online presentation on how to make your best dinner yet.
While Philip would never describe himself as a cordon bleu camp chef, in 35 years of kayaking he's learned enough tricks to avoid both scurvies on his extended solo voyages and mutiny on group trips. At least so far.
Join us for a laid-back evening where you'll learn how to select the right stove(s) for your touring style, what the five basic food groups for kayaking are and when to use which ones, and ideas for adapting your own favourite foods and recipes to kayak voyaging.
