Fundraiser Paddle: Spring Paddle in Support of the Ancient Forest Alliance

specialty
Rates: $89
Dates: March 30, 11am-1pm
Age: 16+

Protect the Land, Paddle the Sea: Join us on March 30 from 11am-1pm for this special spring paddle along Jericho Beach to support a good cause.

Spring is a great time to go kayaking to see beautiful views and connect with nature. We’ll have the chance to enjoy seeing the seasonal changes and marine wildlife while connecting with others who are passionate about the great outdoors. 100% of the proceeds will go towards the Ancient Forest Alliance, BC’s foremost charitable organization working to protect old-growth forests and support a more sustainable forestry industry.

Did you know that the forest and ocean ecosystems are closely connected on the BC coast? For this special fundraiser, you’ll get to hear from knowledgeable guides about why old-growth forests are so important for our ecosystems, climate, health, and culture. You’ll have the chance to learn and share with the group while enjoying being out on the water.

Help us to make a difference for nature while having fun outdoors!

Rates

Default Rate: $89 with 100% going to the Ancient Forest Alliance

If this is an opportunity that you do not want to miss, but you cannot afford the regular rate, we do have a few spots available at the accessible rate of $69.

None, this is a great chance to experience sea kayaking for the first time.

All equipment (kayaks, etc.) will be provided. You just have to wear clothing that you don’t mind getting a little wet (and we recommend to bring a change of clothing for afterwards), as well as footwear that you are okay to step into the water with when launching.

More about the Fundraiser

Our instructor Ariana approached us earlier this year to see if we would be open to doing a fundraiser paddle. As a Social Purpose Organization we are strongly committed to positively contributing to our Communities and to support Connections to the Outdoors and to One-another. So it was an easy decision to say yes to supporting this event.

Jericho Beach Kayak is donating the kayaks and infrastructure and our wonderful guides are donating their time to make this event happen and to be able to have 100% of the proceeds go to the Ancient Forest Alliance. We would also like to thank the JSCA for their support of this event.

Why did Ariana choose the Ancient Forest Alliance?

As an outdoor enthusiast in BC, I have great love for both the ocean and the forests. Anyone who has spent time in forests, especially intact old-growth forests, knows that there is something special and even spiritual about being there. The more we learn about the science of trees and their connections to the ecosystem, the clearer it is that there are still many mysteries to uncover. We owe it to each other and future generations to ensure that the wisdom of these ancient forests is not lost. Many of these incredible places are still under threat of logging, and the AFA is doing wonderful work with First Nations, governments, and partners to fight for protection.

Many of us love kayaking for how close it brings us to nature and the way it allows us to connect with our environment. For all of us that want to help protect it, what better way is there than by supporting the good work being done while having fun in a kayak too?

I can’t wait to see our amazing community come together to raise funds for this cause that is close to my heart.
