Road to Ambleside
Catching a wave is often the most exhilarating feeling one gets while paddling!
We are lucky enough to have the Ambleside Tide Rip which is an exciting local spot to challenge your Surfski skills! Current opposing wind direction creates a dynamic ocean environment where many surfable waves develop.
In this course we will develop the skills we need over 3 evenings at Jericho before heading to a final session at the Ambleside Tide Rip.
You will practice, learn and discuss many skills including:
- Forward Paddling Power
- Quick Acceleration
- Balance and Bracing
- Solo Remounts
- Assisted Remounts
- Wave Theory
- Wave positioning, speed direction changes
- Downwind technique
- Tide Rip Dynamics
- Group Travel/Safety Protocols
*The final session date at Ambleside is weather dependent and subject to change.
Rates
$295 (if you bring your own surfski).
Surfski rentals for the duration of the program are available for a $75 flat rate

Course Format
In the past the course ran over 3 evenings at Jericho and one half-day at Ambleside*
*Please note that the day at Ambleside will be condition-dependent. We might have to reschedule the Ambleside session to the day before or the day after if conditions are more favourable. Please try to keep your days open in case we need to reschedule.
Prerequisites
This is NOT a beginner course. Introduction to Surfski lesson recommended but does not guarantee qualification.
Participants should also be able to perform multiple successful remounts without assistance. Should be able to paddle 7-8 km in an hour.
