Full Day Beginner Kayak + Coastal Adventures Camp
Registration for our 2025 Summer Camps will open on Monday, February 3 at 8am!
Camp Overview
Our Beginner Kayak + Coastal Adventures Full Day Camp for youth 10-14 years old is all about learning and developing our kayaking skills while also exploring the marine environment both on and off the water. Accompanied by their peers and enthusiastic Paddle Canada-certified instructors, campers will enjoy five engaging days of skill development, exploration, and excitement.
On Land: Our camps will start on land where we will dive into the fascinating world of intertidal life, learn and practice navigation and orienteering skills and spend time connecting with the other campers and the outdoors. We will then get ready to get on the water in the afternoons.
On the Water: On the water, campers will acquire essential kayaking skills, including boat handling, safe capsizing, and re-entering their kayak. These skills will prepare campers for exciting paddles in sheltered waters. Weather permitting, we will also aim to certify participants with a nationally recognized paddling certification (Paddle Canada Basic Kayaking Skills).
What to Expect:
Kayaking Adventures
Your child will have the opportunity to learn to paddle their very own sea kayak. They will learn all about their kayaks as well as how to maneuver them to go on short kayaking adventures in our protected bay.
Nature Exploration
Our camp isn’t just about kayaking; it’s about connecting with nature. Campers will spend time on the beach exploring the inter-tidal area and learn about what lives in and around the ocean, all while appreciating the environment they’re exploring.
Team Building
Through fun and interactive activities, your child will develop strong bonds with their fellow campers and gain important teamwork skills. Friendships formed here often last beyond our camps!
Educational Fun
Our camp offers a perfect blend of learning and recreation. Your child will gain a deeper understanding of waterways, ecosystems, and the importance of preserving our natural environment.
Safety First
Your child’s safety is our top priority. All our camp counsellors are Paddle Canada and First Aid certified. We provide the necessary equipment and thorough safety instructions, ensuring a secure and enjoyable experience on the water. If the conditions aren’t safe to go out on the water we will ensure your child still has a great time exploring and learning all about the intertidal zone.
